River Point, the future western bookend of the main branch of the Chicago River is more than two-thirds of the way to its eventual maximum number of floors, according to photographs sent in by Loop Spy Michael.
When complete, the Pickard Chilton-designed building at 444 West Lake Street will rise to 52 stories. Its elevator core is currently around the 35-story mark, and growing, a dramatic presence in the Fulton River District. But in terms of total height, it’s probably closer to about half built. That’s because the top of the 730-foot-tall building is expected to contain a lot of empty space for decorative reasons.
